What is carbon offsetting?
Carbon removal is the process of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and sequestering it in the environment.
Although carbon removal can’t be a substitute for cutting greenhouse emissions, it can help to slow, limit, or even reverse climate change.
At Natural World Fund, our work helps to take carbon from the atmosphere and store it in trees, wetlands, and soil. What’s more, all our reforestation projects receive ongoing care and monitoring to ensure transparency and boost planting survival rates.
How does your company offset carbon?
In simple terms, offsetting one tonne of carbon means there will be one less tonne of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than there would otherwise have been.
To offset emissions, your company purchases the equivalent volume of carbon credits to compensate for the emissions it cannot avoid.
Every carbon credit we offer represents one tonne of emissions reductions that has been delivered by our projects. What’s more, when you purchase carbon credits it means we can fund further habitat restoration.
They are all certified by third parties and go through a rigorous system of checks and balances to prove they are real, measurable, and permanent.
What are the benefits to you?
While over 80% of FTSE 100 companies are committed to reaching net zero by 2050, less than 10% are actually carbon neutral.
Moreover, when it comes to small and micro businesses in the UK, only around 13% set targets to reduce their carbon footprint!

How do we do it?
Natural World Fund’s carbon removal credits come from our restorations of degraded land in the UK. We plant a mix of native tree and plant species, enhance wetlands, and restore peatland.
Our philosophy is to only do the right thing for the piece of land. If it isn’t right for trees, we won’t plant there. This leads to more effective land restoration, higher quality wildlife habitats, and greater ecosystem resilience.
This means that your carbon credit may not have come from woodland. It could have come from wetlands, peatland, wild meadows, etc.
Not only are these forms of habitat restoration vital to prevent the worrying declines in our wildlife, but they are also very effective at capturing and storing carbon.
